Introduction: The Significance of This Special Night
Laylatul Qadr, also known as the Night of Power, Decree, and Destiny, is the holiest night of the Islamic calendar. It is the night in which the Qur’an was first revealed to the Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ), marking the beginning of divine guidance for humanity. Worship during this night is greater in reward than a thousand months, meaning that one sincere night of worship can earn a believer more than 83 years of rewards.
Allah says in the Qur’an:
“Indeed, We sent the Qur’an down during the Night of Decree. And what can make you know what the Night of Decree is? The Night of Decree is better than a thousand months. The angels and the Spirit (Jibreel) descend therein by permission of their Lord for every matter. Peace it is until the emergence of dawn.”
(Surah Al-Qadr 97:1-5)
Laylatul Qadr is a night of immense divine mercy, forgiveness, and decree, where Allah accepts sincere repentance and grants His special blessings to those who seek Him.
The Prophet (ﷺ) said:
“Whoever stands (in prayer) on the Night of Qadr out of faith and seeking reward, his past sins will be forgiven.”
(Sahih al-Bukhari, 1901; Sahih Muslim, 760)
This golden opportunity for believers occurs in the last ten nights of Ramadan, particularly on the odd nights (21st, 23rd, 25th, 27th, or 29th night). Since the exact date is unknown, the Prophet (ﷺ) encouraged seeking it throughout the last ten nights, ensuring maximum devotion.
